Bhagavad Gita · Chapter 2 of 18
Sankhya Yoga
साङ्ख्ययोग — The Yoga of Knowledge · 72 verses
Summary
Arjuna surrenders to Krishna as his teacher, and Krishna begins. The Self (atman) is eternal: it is never born and never dies, and only bodies are cast off like worn-out clothes, so there is no cause for grief. Krishna then introduces karma yoga — acting without attachment to results: “you have a right to your action, never to its fruits.” He describes the sthitaprajna, the person of steady wisdom, who is undisturbed by pleasure and pain, has mastered the senses and is at peace. Many regard this chapter as a summary of the whole Gita.
