Moon Sign Compatibility

Choose two Moon signs (rashis) to see how they relate in Vedic tradition: the distance between the signs (Bhakoot), whether the ruling planets are friends, and how each Moon sign tends to love.

How Moon-sign compatibility is worked out

In Vedic astrology your Moon sign (rashi) describes your emotional nature, so it is the sign used in traditional matching. This tool combines two classical ideas. The first is Bhakoot: count from one Moon sign to the other and back again. Pairs that are 1/1, 3/11, 4/10 or 7/7 apart are considered harmonious, while 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 are the three Bhakoot doshas. The second is Graha Maitri: the natural friendship between the planets that rule the two signs.

When a Bhakoot dosha occurs but both signs share a ruler or the rulers are mutual friends, many astrologers treat the dosha as cancelled, and the score reflects that. The result is the same whichever sign you enter first.

Don’t know your Moon sign?

Your Moon sign depends on the exact position of the Moon when you were born, which changes every two to three days. Find it with the Rashi (Moon sign) calculator or a full birth chart. For a traditional match using the birth stars, try the 10 Porutham calculator or Kundli matching.

Frequently asked questions

Is Moon-sign compatibility the same as sun-sign compatibility?

No. Vedic matching uses the sidereal Moon sign, which describes your emotional nature. Your Western sun sign is a different placement.

What is Bhakoot dosha?

It is the name for the 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 relationships between two Moon signs in Guna Milan. Friendly or identical sign rulers are a widely accepted cancellation.

Is the same Moon sign a good match?

Usually yes: you tend to understand each other’s moods easily. Tradition also looks at the birth stars, as two people with the same sign can still differ in Nadi or Rajju.

Is a low percentage a bad sign?

Not at all. It simply suggests areas where understanding takes more conscious effort. A full chart comparison gives a much richer picture.
